oh ye denver birds: 'i believe in love, kid'.

about 18 months ago, a friend sent me the link to oh ye denver birds engaged in a midday acoustic jam out the back of an undisclosed brisbane venue. h.w.o.o live somewhere random is complete with multi-layered violin, guitar, xylophone, harmonies and a cooking pot [to bang on, of course]. it's a sunny afternoon kinda song.

oh ye denver birds is an innovative new indie pop act from brisbane, who have recently wrapped up a national tour. these hipsters have had the pleasure of playing alongside great acts such as lamb, cloud control, boy and bear and akron family. "with a disposition towards brash rhythms and multi-instrumental layering, [oh ye denver birds] prides itself on a ethos of constant experimentation with sound and structural conventions, and have, therefore, drawn comparisons to a variety of musical creeds, all the while keeping a firm anchor in expressing their distinctive pop aesthetic." [scg media]

fast forward 2 years from that visceral jam, and oh ye denver birds have three singles under their belt [2010's 'walls' and 'your sacrifice' received glowing reviews from triple j's rosie beaton and richard kindsmill - kingsmill wrote of 'walls': "if they were from brooklyn, they'd be on a million blogs by now. I'm happy they're home for now is unearthed."]. their debut album, good ivy, will be released in early 2012. their latest single, 'i believe in love, kid', is a far cry from h.w.o.o. dom stephen's distinct voice leads the complex instrumental layering, which lends to the cool juxtaposition of gliding and jilted harmonies, and spunky electro indie pop.

a very cool outfit, indeed. and one worth watching in the future.
