a decade with duke feat. justin vernon.

now, a little while back, i wrote a piece about justin vernon's side-project, volcano choir. well, it turns out the singer/song-writer had his fingers in yet another project - this time with a lovely jazz flavour. the man is just awesomely talented.

back in the 90s, vernon was a member of eau claire memorial high school’s jazz ensemble. in april 2009, vernon returned to his old school and played with wisconsin’s memorial high jazz ensemble I. his presence helped completely sell-out the venue and he put on a show which consisted of duke ellington covers as well as a couple of brass-injected bon iver songs: 'lump sum' + 'for emma'.

the result is an eight-song live album of that show called a decade with duke. vernon conducted solely to benefit the first band he was a part of, and all proceeds go to the eau claire memorial jazz band.
