music: an album made for the last day of winter.

a few years ago, justin vernon moved to a remote cabin in north west wisconsin. during this isolation, all of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss + guilt were suddenly purged into the beautiful album for emma, forever ago. in a low mood, it can almost move you to tears.

more recently, vernon put bon iver to one side + teamed up with minimalist experimental post-rockers, collections of colonies of bees. last september, the collaboration [who go by the rather beautiful name volcano choir] produced the subtle, mysterious, experimental, abstract and, at times, poppy album unmap [oh! such a beautiful title]. however, it has taken me almost a year to uncover its existence: a most terrible oversight on my behalf.

while unmap is a far less lyrical album than vernon's previous projects, it is riddled with the singer/songwriter's unmistakable falsetto + moments of haunting loveliness. and just look at the album artwork - isn't it beautiful, also?
