andrew bird and gotye. yes, that's right. i would have them both at my own, personal music festival. unfortunately, that is very unlikely to happen. instead, i have a treat from each of them to look forward to in the next little while.
1. in the chaotic final months of touring 2009's 'noble beast', filmmaker xan aranda documented andrew bird on the road. the resulting film is fever year, which will premiere at the vancouver international film festival in late september. according to aranda’s blog, the festival’s adjudicators gave much praise to an early cut of fever year, describing it as “a film as beautiful and understated as a portrait of andrew bird should be”. no doubt, it will be beautiful: andrew bird, of course, is truly memorable live. while i wait for the film, i'll listen to niger collective etran finatawa + bird make beautiful music together at a recent folk festival. oh, aural deliciousness!
2. only a couple more sleeps until gotye's eclectic, quirky and magnificent third album 'making mirrors' is released. triple j and gotye have very kindly allowed us to stream the album in its entirety for free! so if you want a sneak peek, you can find it here. i am particularly loving the dub-inspired tracks; though, the sting meets peter gabrielesque 'somebody that i used to know' is still my standout favourite. i will have to wait until october to see him live at the powerhouse.
