this semester, 2nd year architecture students at qut immersed themselves in the world of independent film.
first, students were asked to form small groups and, in three weeks, make short films depicting some aspect of the pocket sites given to them along brisbane's north bank. there was a screening night of the best films at the tribal theatre - these films can be viewed here. second, they were asked to develop proposals for urban design, public space + architectural envelope, which related to site + their film. finally, extending upon these investigations, they were then asked to design a small film studio + meeting point for filmmakers, video|sound artists + students.
i'd like to share one of my student's work. brendan's response was still largely conceptual + the handmade images he presented were incredibly evocative. [click on the images to make them larger.]
