farewell, troubadour.

this week marks the countdown to the closure of the troubadour - the last gig is on sunday the 21st. and although i am not a brisbane native, i had preconceived notions of the venue prior to relocating north. it meant bloody good music - local music - in an eclectic, over-sized, lamp-lit living room. exactly my cup of tea.

tonight, the troubadour had a mid-week send-off, organised by sam [skinny jean drummer + troubadour door boy]. oooh. it was a night of awesome home-grown brissie goodness, with mosman alder, the slow push, little scout, skinny jean + re:enactment.

i only caught the last half of mosman alder, and i was impressed. i particularly loved the use of the violin, and the harmonies were a treat. plus, they have an awesome band photo - that building is great!

i wasn't that excited by little scout. which is a shame, because the first time i heard their ep i adored it, and still do. maybe it was just that i picked up on a sarah blasko-equse sound in mel's voice early on. and it's no secret that i'm not particularly a fan of blasko. skinny jean were on fire. what i am loving at the moment is local cross-band collaborations, and i think little scout + skinny jean did it well tonight.

[the slow push]

but the most amazing part of the night was the slow push. i'm not exactly sure what chris does with his body + head when he's on stage. and well, there's no denying that nat is an awesome dancer. somewhere between mel + chris's 'dancing' lies my happy place. what an absolutely spunky set they delivered! the troubadour was packed, and i doubt there was any individual there that wasn't at least toe tapping. i'd been warned. and i was not disappointed. when seeing the slow push, you must position yourself near the front to watch the band strut their stuff. brilliant!

i went home before re:enactment. it was a school night, after all.

actually, i lie. there was a better part to the night: the delicious baked goods from nat [the slow push]. a big thumbs up to the dark chocolate chip hot spiced biscuits - all kinds of wonderful. she can cater a tea party of mine any day. a lovely lovely way to end the troubadour as we know it. it has been a great pleasure knowing you - even if it was only for a short[ish] time.
