to say i was in love with chocolate would be a slight understatement. the chocolate i love the most is organic + fair trade. so when i happened upon mast brothers chocolate i got a little ... well ... overwhelmed with happiness.
rick and michael mast are two lovely new york hipster-types who also happen to be very talented artisan chocolatiers. they produce ridiculous wonderful, organic, fair trade chocolate in their boutique factory in brooklyn. rick comes from a culinary background and is a musician, playing the piano + the banjo. michael was a film maker, photographer + a traveler [sigh].

their organic cocoa beans are sourced from small family farms, in locations such as madagascar, equador + venezuala. the beans are roasted + cracked by hand in the small factory. each chocolate bar is then personally handcrafted in delicate batches. finally, the bars are individually hand wrapped in the most lovely patterned paper designs, some of which will eventually be handmade by local artists and printed on site.
and i might consider marrying one the mast brothers - particularly after enjoying this short documentary. and if you are quite partial to bearded men, click here.
